A few days ago when I was in the Llyod Center in Portland, I had a Jamba Juice. Typically I stop every time I am in the area of one. The other day Jamba let me down. They now have paper cups. Or at least the one I was at did. The cups looked the same, but they were paper. Don't know who made that decision. I sure hope that all of them aren't going that direction.
Not that the actual product (or drink) is affected, but what this does is tell me "cheap." Part of the Jamba Juice experience is the styrofoam cup. But you don't realize how big a deal it is until it is gone. If they go cheap on this, it begs the question, "What else do they or will they go cheap on?"
In my eyes Jamba is going down the cheap route to save, what $ .03 per cup. Raise the price of all drinks $ .05. I wouldn't notice. But I do notice when you change the cup. It is all perception.
What was funny was the lady in front of me. She asked for a second cup so she could "double" her cup. She said the drink feels cold on her hand.
I will still probably go to Jamba Juice every time I am in the area of one because they are stinkin' good, but I want the old cups back.
Jamba, please don't go cheap.
Oh also, get the double fiber boost....it's worth it.

This is a long shot b/c the post is so old, but "are you kidding me" get caught up with the times man, Styrofoam is banned in many American cities b/c of is environmental impacts. The impacts are huge, second only to aluminum, plus it has global warming implications as well. It takes at least 1000 years for the stuff to decompose, in the mean time birds and fish eat it and kill themselves of starvation. Care for the world you live in and become a conscious consumer, please! There is more to the products you buy them your personal immediate satisfaction.
I encourage everybody to boycott Jamba unless they get rid of styrofoam cups at all of their stores. Let's not 'cheapen' God's earth any further eh?
This posting was the first thing that came up with I searched "jamba juice styrofoam" in Google in Feb. 2008...so I wanted to comment.
If you look at the bottom of the Jamba Juice "styrofoam," you'll notice the number 6, which means that the material is actually polystyrene, which is recyclable in many communities.
I think the problem is with Jamba's messaging--they're not getting the word out that you can actually recycle their cups...which is more likely why they may have switched to paper cups, which are more easily identifiable as recyclable.
I bring my own cup when I go to Jamba Juice, because I don't like that they are still using Styrofoam cups when they're more environmentally friendly alternatives. I'm glad this company is transitioning and in no way is the lack of styrofoam cheapening business.

first, thanks jennifer for bringing your own cup! my town outlawed Jamba's styrofoam and i'm looking for a petition to ask JJ to ease up on their horrendous environmental molestation elsewhere. anybody know of one that i can blow up on facebook? any other way i can help cut down their styrofoam usage?
Use PET plastic it is a #1 plastic, and the best for recycling. It is earth friendly, readily available, and more expensive compared to paper, and foam. Then you will feel much better about Jamba spending more money to put a smile on the consumers faces instead of cutting costs. And, they are not turning to paper for cost, but because foam is not a desired material by environmentalists.
Anyway, PET#1 is your best choice (like starbucks, Peets, etc.)
Who cares if its cheap or not?! the point is that the earth is getting trashed by styrofoam cups. Jamba Juice is not helping the problem or the future of this planet. They are causing pollution because they can not decompose or be composted so the only way to get rid of them is to burn them. hence, pollution. It is not going to hurt anything to have 2 cups once in a while to block the cold. if there was double the amount of paper cups out there, it would cause less damage to the earth then half the amount of styrofoam.

The styrofoam cups were terrible. I have not been there for a long time because they didn't have paper cups. It wasn't helping at all when they had the styrofoam ones. That's horrible for the environment!
And I thought I was the only one who noticed the styrofoam. I wouldn't exactly call myself an environmentalist, but I've tried to avoid styrofoam since I was a kid bc of recycling videos I saw on t.v. I find it pretty ironic that there's a Jamba in the Whole Foods near my school.
Kinda funny that on the JJ cup it says that "Jamba Juice is committed to you and your good health." Styrofoam aka polystyrene emits benzene and styrene into the air, and more importantly, into our food! Both are known carcinogens & the side effects from these chemicals are insane! Not only is styrofoam terrible for our health, but it is also extremely hazardous for our environment. it is NOT biodegradable and can leak toxins into the groundwater under our overstuffed landfills. But remember that not all styrofoam is added to these landfills, a good percentage is often dumped into the environment as litter, where it breaks up into smaller pieces. Animals, thinking it's food, choke or die of clogged digestive pathways. So, not only is styrofoam EXTREMELY harmful for our health, but it is also bad for the environment, and animals as well! If you prefer styrofoam over paper because paper makes your hand cold, then you are just a selfish fucking idiot that needs to get your head examined. OR, go stand in that imaginary land with the rest of the republicans who think that global warming does not exist!!!
Styrofoam is NOT recyclable. Although it is often collected by municipalities for various reuses, it is not recycled.

Even if the cup is recyclable polystyrene (#6) or polyethylene (#1), it isn't a good alternative.
First or all, it's still never going away - it's just reusable (recyclable).
Second, you're assuming that it will be recycled, which percentage-wise is highly unlikely.

Perhaps if Jamba juice wanted to pay for the oil clean up in the Gulf of Mexico, you would be willing to cover the increase in cost of your Styrofoam? Styrofoam is a petroleum product, we don't need to look much further than the destruction that is about to come from this oil spill to know that Styrofoam is not the answer. Perhaps you can rally for some of the corn-based foam products. As for now, Jamba Juice in NYC still uses Styrofoam and they have blood on their hands as far as I'm concerned.

I am a Packaging Engineer and an ardent supporter of Jamba Juice! and am also very upset with the move to the paper cups.
Foam cups have received a very unfair rap from the industry due to misinformation! We CAN recycle EPS Foam cups and they do contain 30% less plastic than an equivalent volume cup made from a rigid plastic. The Paper cups now being used have a thin film of plastic on the inside, which render them non-recyclable. Also, Jamba Juice has been duped by the suppliers of the new double walled Paper cups as there should be a gap between the two paper cup layers to allow for an air insulation and thus reduce the sweating but instead the cups they are being supplied with have the two paper walls stuck together with no insulation in-between - Makes no sense!!! take a look at the new Subway cups and tear the outer layer of paper off the Jamba paper cup and the Subway or new McDonalds coffee cups and let me know what you find? An air gap! Fancy that!
Exactly, the new paper Jamba Juice cups suck big time. They do not perform nearly as well as the polystyrene cups. The smoothie melts in no time. In the polystyrene ones would keep the smoothie frozen for a looooong time. Clueless and brainwashed enviros only succeed at reducing our quality of life and in almost every case they are counterproductive to actual environmental improvements.
